**Replacement: **KIT-09951. The new version of the SIK now includes a flex sensor, a softpot, and a newer better trimpot. This page is for reference only.
The SparkFun Inventor's Kit for Arduino (formally 'Arduino Inventor's Kit') is a box of goodies to get the very beginner (and future inventors!) started with programmable electronics. It includes all the bits you need to build 12 basic circuits, no soldering required! On top of that, we've joined forces with Oomlout to offer a small booklet to get you started. The SIK comes with everything pictured and a 36 page color printed 'starter' guide. The guide will take a complete novice and get them:
Mixing LED colors
We believe these to be the building blocks of any electronics project. Once these concepts are mastered, very impressive projects are possible using simple recombinations.
Note: This kit does not include a base plate. We're pretty excited about how it's all coming together, but there are still some problems. We're working on getting a plastic plate to hold the Arduino next to the bread board. It's shown in the documentation, and it's coming! But we did not want to hold up this kit any longer.
Note: This product is a collaboration with Oomlout. A portion of each sales goes back to them for product support and continued development.
Documentation:
Note: This version of the SIK has an error on the temperature circuit (CIRC10). The LM335A is wired incorrectly. You can find the correct overlay here. This will be corrected on the next SIK revision.
Note: This version of the SIK has an additional CIRG-RGB that demonstrates how to mix an RGB LED.

This kit is awesome! Comes with everything you need to start learning the basics with Arduino. You get so much for so little. Also, I would recommend getting KIT-09285 along with this. It just adds more possibilities. Thanks SparkFun!

I'm totally set to order, but waiting for the base plate. Son's birthday coming up, how much longer on that? Thanks!!!
I have been told that the ETA is about 2 or 3 weeks. Don't hold your breath though.
Although the kit is a great starting point I was let down by the quality of the jumper wires. When trying to push the wires into the bread board I would bend more than I would get in. If they included the tray that holds the Arduino and bread board (as indicated in the manual) I would have overlooked the wires.
Hi, I am new to electronics... I would like to start playing around, does this kit includes the processor or not? Would this kit be enough to start or do I need anything else?
When would the base plate be available? Would like to get this kit only when the base plate is included.
Hi,
It's coming, I'm sorry it's taking so long. We are working on getting them custom molded, and we had to make a few unexpected changes that are holding.
I just bought the kit and I love it! Are you going to ship out the base plate when you receive them in (for those who have previously purchased the kit), or will there be a way to purchase it seperately?
It's coming and we will sell it separately.
I have this kit and I can really recommend it, it was this stuff which got me started with electronics. :)
