I have interfaced this accelerometer to my atmega1280 board (not arduino). Written program in atmel studio 6. I have configured it for 3200hz data output rate, fifo bypass mode, using full resolution and range is +-2g. I am getting values ranging from about -255 to +255 (only gravity acting, not any additional acceleration). Am I getting right value range? Or is there any way to get more resolution? And when still data is fluctuating +-5. Is this normal?

Can I directly connect SDA and SCL pins of microcontroller and adxl345? As accelerometer is designed to operate at 3.3v and microcontroller operates at 5v. I have a 3.3v supply to power accelerometer but I do not know whether I can connect communication lines directly or not. PLEASE help.
